2015 PGA Championship tee times: Saturday schedule includes 2nd round restart, full 3rd round

The schedule is off at a second straight major but after a long Saturday that should include the resumption of the second round, the cut and the third round, we’ll be back on track by Sunday.

The weather at this week’s PGA Championship was supposed be almost perfect except for late Friday, when there was potential for some storms to disrupt the second round. Well, those storms came and hammered Whistling Straits hard on Friday night, leaving us with a second straight major championship that won’t make it’s cut on time due to weather impacts.

Unlike the British Open, however, the PGA should stay relatively on schedule and get everything back on track by Saturday night. The horn blew at 5:28 p.m. local on Friday night, and it became pretty clear once the players got into the clubhouse that they would not be going back out again. The wind gusted over 50 miles per hour and the rain came sideways. Several scoreboards and temporary structures were destroyed, fortunately after they got everyone clear off the course. So the PGA of America made the quick call that nothing would resume until Saturday morning at 7 a.m. local (8 a.m. ET).

There are still 57 players on the course needing to finish up their second round. They include the current co-leaders Matt Jones and Jason Day, Tiger Woods, Justin Rose, Rickie Fowler and Dustin Johnson. So, everyone will be put back in place on both nines at 8 a.m. ET with anywhere from one to seven holes to finish up. The last tee time of the second round is through 11 holes. There’s not much left and this is nothing like the start-and-stop mess at St. Andrews.

That completion of the second round should last about 90 minutes. The PGA plans to put a half-hour break in between that finish and the start of the third round, but they’re estimating that the third round tee times will begin around 10:15 a.m. ET. Unlike the British Open, where rain and wind pushed the conclusion of the third round all the way to Saturday night, there is not expected to be any further disruptions on Saturday at Whistling Straits. They’re going to send the players in twosomes all off No. 1, with tee times running from about 10:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. The third round will obviously end later than originally scheduled, but the final pairing should be done before darkness. It’s a major, but twosomes should play the round in about 4.5 hours max with the last two putting out on the 18th around 8:30 ET on CBS.

These are all estimates but everything should stay relatively on schedule. We’ll make the cut by about 9:30 a.m. ET and be through 54 holes by Saturday night. The estimated schedule (we’ll update with official third round tee times when they’re set):

Second round: Restart at 8 a.m. ET, with 57 players finishing up by about 9:30 a.m. ET

Third round: Starting 30 minutes after conclusion of third round

Third round tee times: Groups of two all off No. 1, estimated from 10:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET
