PGA Championship tee times: Pairings and start time for Sunday’s final round

Six birdies on his last eight holes Saturday night pushed Jordan Spieth into the final pairing of the final major round of the year.

This has been an incredible and transitional year at the major championships, and the Sunday final pairing in the final round of major golf is the perfect way to go out. Jordan Spieth and Jason Day will anchor the tee sheet for the final 18 holes of the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits, the two post-Tiger era names that have separated themselves this majors season more than any others.

Spieth, of course, is bidding to become the first player ever to win the PGA, U.S. Open, and Masters in the same year. He’s also gunning for Rory McIlroy’s world No. 1 ranking and has established himself as a generational player who will be a force at these championships for the next two decades. Day does not have those titles already, and he’s five years older than Spieth. But this is the third straight major he’s held the 54-hole lead, and he’s already got NINE top-10 finishes in a major championship career that’s less than five years old. Among those results are three runners-up and five top-fives. So he’s an obscenely talented superstar who plays his best at the biggest events and will breakthrough for what should be the first of multiple majors soon -- perhaps as soon as Sunday.

There are so many other young faces of this transition to the post-Tiger phase of golf, one that’s looking incredibly strong. But it feels appropriate to have Spieth and Day there together after this particular summer.

The wind is supposed to pick up on Sunday and make the course more challenging, but that should be the only significant weather change. The forecast is clear and we should stay on schedule for a Sunday night on-time finish. Saturday’s round went deeper into the night after the PGA had to bring 57 players back in the morning to finish the second round and make the cut. The final tee time in the third round did not go off until after 4 p.m. ET (3 p.m. local), but everyone got in house and through 54 holes well before darkness. Sunday’s round is scheduled to finish around 7 p.m. ET on CBS, so the Day-Spieth duo with go at 2:45 p.m. ET.

Aside from a Rory McIlroy charge into contention, this is everything we could have hoped for at the start of the final major Sunday this year. Here’s your full tee sheet for the last 18 at the PGA Championship:
