PGA Championship 2015 leaderboard: Jason Day trying to hold on as Jordan Spieth chases

The PGA Championship is coming down to the final holes and it appears to be a two-player race.

Jason Day has held the lead the entire day at the 2015 PGA Championship and he’s now just three holes away from winning the first major championship of his career. If he’s going to hold on and raise the Wanamaker Trophy, however, he is going to need to outlast Jordan Spieth who is once again making a run in a major.

Day improved to 20-under at one point in the round, becoming just the second player ever to hit that mark in a major championships. He wasn’t able to stay at 20-under, giving a shot back at No. 15, but he still holds the lead at 19-under. He’s been in fairly comfortable position all day thanks to some early birdies and entered the 16th hole with a three-shot lead and only three holes to play.

Although he hasn’t been able to make a major run up the leaderboard, Spieth has done enough to stay within range of Day and try to put some pressure on. He hasn’t putted extremely well and would be a shot or two closer if a couple of close putts had dropped. Spieth hasn’t been as sharp overall, with a few miscues along the way. Still, he’s once again contending for a major on Sunday. It appears Spieth will need Day to falter to have a shot.

Day has run into some trouble of his own, but scrambled well to minimize the damage. That included a wonderful up-and-down following a chunked shot. He’s carded two bogeys on the round to go along with six birdies.

Here is a snapshot of where things stand. For a live leaderboard, head over to PGA.com.
