Tiger Woods, you may have heard, went full circle for 2015 when he chunked and shanked his way out of a chance to make it to the PGA Tour postseason. Several other notable events went down while Golf Nation turned its lonely eyes to Greensboro.
The crazies come out for Tiger mania in Greensboro while Lydia Ko wins again in Canada
A typically slow weekend in golf delivered plenty of entertainment and drama -- here’s your roundup from Greensboro to Canada.

Lydia Ko’s hat trick north of the border
Current phenom and new LPGA member Brooke Henderson may be the face of Canada, but Lydia Ko owns the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open to the tune of three of her eight tour wins coming from north of the border.
Ko, who beat Stacy Lewis in a playoff on Sunday at Vancouver Golf Club, won the event that propelled her into the consciousness of golf fans when she prevailed in 2012 and, at 15 years and four months, became the youngest LPGA victor. She defended her title in 2013 and Sunday won the tournament for the first time since she turned professional.

— CP Womens Open (@cpwomensopen) August 24, 2015 This time around, the 18-year-old beat Lewis with a par on the first extra frame.
“It’s great to be back in the winner’s circle, and to play good golf in front of great crowds,” Ko said after finishing in a 12-under tie with Lewis and then tapping in a two-footer for the win in overtime. “I kind of feel like somewhat Canadian.”
Time to pull Rory’s mind-numbing watch ad
Anyone who watches golf broadcasts has no doubt had the urge over the last year or so to slam a 9-iron into the TV screen every time a certain skull-imploding Script/will.i.am. vocal plays as Rory McIlroy blasts a ball into the Dubai skyline.
well.i.am. completely in favor of Tron Carter and No Laying Up’s petition to boycott the timepiece brand and its parent company until the powers-that-be stop the madness and make another damn commercial already.
I'm fed up. Watching televised golf is unbearable thanks to @omegawatches & @McIlroyRory. Agree? Sign the petition: https://t.co/IlCy2dlm7W
— Tron Carter (@TronCarterNLU) August 22, 2015 No shock that the bid to block the commercial has met with enthusiasm.
The responses to @TronCarterNLU's petition to stop the Rory Omega ad are priceless. #RIPjack https://t.co/m7xiJrv9Kr pic.twitter.com/JtrK6qLBlB
— No Laying Up (@NoLayingUp) August 22, 2015 Captain DL3 to play in Ryder Cup? He’d love to
Speaking of timepieces, 51-year-old Davis Love III turned back the clock by becoming on Sunday the oldest active tour winner. With an improbable victory in Greensboro and a well-earned spring in his step, DL3 told a scrum of reporters after his one-shot Wyndham Championship triumph that he would play on the 2016 U.S. Ryder Cup team, which he will skipper, if he ends up among the two or three top qualifiers.
“If I was scraping in, I don’t know,” said Love about playing at Hazeltine next September if he straggled in as one of the last to earn his way onto the team.
Love, who led the Americans to defeat in the 2012 biennial event with Europe, said the team would be in good hands if he chose to be a playing captain.
“We’ve got it covered,” he said.“ [Tom Lehman], he’s not just an assistant captain.”
Solheim Cup picks on tap
Love won’t have to decide who gets to play in next year’s Ryder Cup for a while, but Juli Inkster will announce her two Solheim Cup captain’s picks Monday live and in almost primetime on Golf Channel.
The Americans who automatically qualified for the squad following the Canadian Women’s Open were Lewis, Lexi Thompson, Cristie Kerr, Michelle Wie, Brittany Lincicome, Morgan Pressel, Angela Stanford, and Gerine Piller. The players with the most points outside the top eight who qualified due to their Rolex Rankings standings were Alison Lee and Lizette Salas.
Team Europe captain Carin Koch will make her final picks live from London on Tuesday. Those four will join Suzann Pettersen, Gwladys Nocera, Charley Hull, and Melissa Reid.
“Trump 2016” make us long for “baba booey”
And we’re back to Tiger, who, for some unfathomable reason, inspired some yahoo to shout “Trump 2016” after one of his shots (h/t For The Win).
Tiger thanks Greensboro
Woods, as his game has progressed, has become downright chatty on social media. Just two weeks ago, the now 257th-ranked player in the world (up from 286, so, yeah, progress), congratulated Jason Day on his PGA Championship win and Jordan Spieth on his “incredible season.”
Game over, very happy for Jason. Great dude and well deserved. Hats off to Jordan, incredible season. Calling it early.
— Tiger Woods (@TigerWoods) August 16, 2015 Sunday, after failing to make the FedExCup playoffs, Woods went to Twitter again, this time to thank the Wyndham fans for making his first professional start at Sedgefield so enjoyable and to send kudos Love’s way.
People were so nice this entire week, tons of respect for Greensboro. Very cool to see @Love3d get another win here.
— Tiger Woods (@TigerWoods) August 23, 2015 Tiger haters take note
Finally, to all those who believe golf writers should cease and desist when it comes to reporting on the former world No. 1 (thanks for your charming emails; way to keep it classy), you don’t have to dig much deeper than the TV ratings (boffo) or teeming galleries (jam packed and sold out) to figure out how incredibly off base you are. But two instances of Tiger-mania particularly caught our eye last week, so turn away if you’re among those who wish Woods would wander off once and for all.
This woman, who literally wears her support for Tiger, if not on her sleeves, than certainly on other parts of her attire:

Don't know what to say about this obvious @TigerWoods fan here at @WyndhamChamp. Feel free to caption this. pic.twitter.com/rxkDJDWVYp
— Todd Lewis (@ToddLewisGC) August 23, 2015 And the young man who was so excited to introduce Woods to the Wyndham folks that he got just a tad carried away.
This first tee announcer is leaving it all on the field today. Respect.
— D.J. Piehowski (@DJPie) August 22, 2015 Woods, whose hip bothered him on Sunday, failed to make it to the postseason for the second straight year and the “playoffs” won’t be the same without him. See you in October, Tiger.
