Rory McIlroy posts video of injured ankle looking ready for PGA defense

In a new workout video he posted on social media, Rory McIlroy puts his left ankle through the paces, sparking speculation that the world No. 1 will be ready to defend his PGA Championship title next week at Whistling Straits.

Rory McIlroy, in a workout video the world No. 1 posted on Instagram on Wednesday, looks as fit as ever and his injured ankle appears strong and ready for action.

With speculation swirling about whether McIlroy will play a practice round at PGA Championship host course, Whistling Straits, this weekend, the four-time major winner appears in the clip with his left ankle unfettered by a boot or support tape. Which raises anew conjecture about when, where and if Rory will compete again this year.

After rupturing ligaments in the ankle in a soccer game on July 4, McIlroy withdrew from this week’s WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. The clip certainly lends credence to Reuters’ report that the defending champ planned a scouting trip to Wisconsin, though his manager, Sean O’Flaherty, has denied that his client had a tee time this weekend.

Team Rory will have an update on his condition on Thursday, O’Flaherty has told the BBC.
