Michelle Wie gets chipping lesson from Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods and Michelle Wie have a few things in common — Stanford, Nike and injury-plagued careers that have the PGA and LPGA Tour stars scrambling to return their bodies and games to health.

Woods’ bad back allows him to do little more than teach kids during a Tiger Woods Foundation clinic — a class that included Wie. During the jam session, the 2014 U.S. Women’s Open winner picked up some short-game tips from the former world No. 1 she hopes will help her rebound from as dreadful a 2015 as that of Coach Woods.

Injuries and sickness derailed Wie’s season, one in which the four-time tour winner carded no top-10 finishes. At this time last year, Woods was suffering through a hideous case of the chipping yips that led to a self-imposed hiatus prior to his landing on the DL.

The 14-time major champion seemed poised to regain a semblance of his winning form when he came in tied for 10th at his last event, the Wyndham Championship in August, and then his back crapped out.

Prior to those wedge woes, Woods had been renowned for his play around the greens so it’s no surprise Wie might pick up some tips from her swoosh stablemate.

Wie will take her new-found knowledge — gleaned from Woods as well as a couple days spent with instructor David Leadbetter last week — to the season-opening Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic later this month.
