The winner of six green jackets tweeted his encouragement to last year’s Masters champion and congratulated Danny Willett for his ability to capitalize on Spieth’s meltdown with a flawless 5-under 67 final round.

Here’s what Nicklaus had to say to Spieth:
“I think the whole golfing world feels for Jordan Spieth,” Nicklaus tweeted. “He had a chance to do something truly special and something very few have done before -- and be the youngest to accomplish that -- and he just didn’t pull through. My heart goes out to him.”
Nicklaus called Willett “a pretty darn good player” who recognized the enormity of the situation and “finished it.” He added that “my congratulations go to Danny for what he did.”
