Bubba Watson pokes fun at himself from Shenzhen International

Bubba Watson is renowned for rebuking his caddie Ted Scott, skewers himself in amusing videos from China.

Bubba Watson, for all his carping about course conditions and berating of caddie Ted Scott for making him hit the wrong club, has the capacity to laugh at himself and his foibles, as a new comedy routine in which Scott plays golfer to Bubba’s looper can attest.

Scott, Watson’s long-suffering caddie who sparked his own hashtag, #PrayForTedScott, notoriously came under fire from his boss at the 2013 Travelers Championship for misreading the distance to the green (“Water. It’s in the water. That club.”)

Hilarity did not ensue — until the playful duo some three years later restaged the scene at the Genzon Golf Club, where Watson is playing in the European Tour’s Shenzhen International. This time, in an amusing switcheroo, Bubba offers his expertise about the “high cut” Teddy should hit with a 1-iron over water (“Everybody uses the 1-iron.”)

But wait. There’s more.

Watson devotees know that the bomber from Bagdad, Fla. is no fan of Mother Nature — especially when rain water gets between his club face or a damp patch of earth gets between his two ears.

Once again — the comic stylings of Bubba Watson:

Then there was the effort by Team Bubba (including Scott and manager Randall Wells) — inspired by a Euro Tour relay squad’s breaking of a Guinness World Record by making a birdie on a 500-yard hole in 34.8 seconds — to set its own mark.

Check out Bubba’s unofficial version, in which the trio scored an eagle in 23 seconds.

Clearly, Watson’s having a ball in China, where after weather (Mother Nature, again!) suspended the second round until Saturday morning, the world No. 4 was tied for 23rd, 11 shots off the pace.
