Jordan Spieth’s Masters Champions Dinner menu will be ‘Texas barbecue’

The most exclusive dinner in golf will be catered and paid for by Jordan Spieth, who is going with popular barbecue from his home state.

If your dream Masters Champions’ Dinner menu involves a specific item only available from a chain or another restaurant, well, bad news. You’re going to have to deal with some knock-off imitation.

Of course, that knock-off imitation will be prepared at one of the world’s most exclusive clubs -- and it will probably be better than any morsel of food that’s ever touched your tastebuds.

After Ben Crenshaw, the 1984 & 1995 champion and dinner emcee, started the rumor on Monday that fellow Texan Jordan Spieth would be serving up famous Salt Lick BBQ on Tuesday evening, Spieth put those rumors to rest. Instead, it’l just be good-ole Texas BBQ and “texan meats” prepared by what’s assumedly a quite talented culinary staff at Augusta National.

The Champions Dinner is one of Augusta's most famed traditions -- dating back to Ben Hogan's original dinner in 1952 that featured just 11 attendees. Now in 2016, Spieth will host over 30 former champions such as Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player on his own dime.

No matter the source, it’s a solid first menu from Spieth that shouldn’t harbor many complaints. It’s barbecue, and it’s Texas BBQ -- which is unequivocally and irrefutably good. Pair some beautiful brisket with, say, some greenery of some sort and a starchy side and you’ve got yourself a nice little meal there. And as much of a shame as it is that Spieth can’t import authentic BBQ from Austin from Salt Lick or Franklin’s, all those former champions are just lucky Spieth isn’t from the Carolinas, otherwise he’d be serving the culinary approximation of some shredded pork topped with extremely dehydrated urine.
