Tom Watson makes emotional walk up 18th hole at his last Masters

Tom Watson fails to make the cut in his last competitive go-round at Augusta, making his final walk up the 18th -- his 2148th hole in a 43-year Masters career.

Tom Watson will, no doubt, one day be tapped to hit the ceremonial first tee shot to kick off the Masters. For now, though, the winner of two green jackets has played his last round as a competitor at Augusta.

Watson, 66, posted a 2-over 74 in his opening round on Thursday, which gave him hope he could achieve his goal of making the cut in his final Masters stint. Alas, it was not to be, and Watson -- who finished at 8-over in total following a second-round 78 -- pretty much knew that would be the case starting out.

“I don’t have the tools,” he said after his first round, about the track that keeps getting longer and more robust with each passing year. “I don’t have the length to play this golf course.’’

That did not matter to the patrons, who cheered as Watson, acknowledging the acclaim, made his final walk up the 18th fairway.
