Jordan Spieth leads the Masters for a record sixth straight round and he wakes up again as the favorite to win the green jacket. Spieth would be the fourth player ever to win consecutive Masters, joining Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus and Nick Faldo. With 36 holes left to go, Spieth holds a one-shot lead over Rory McIlroy and is now a 2/1 favorite.
Current Masters 2016 odds: Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy heavy favorites at Augusta
The two biggest names in the game are on top of the leaderboard at Augusta National, setting up what could be a classic Masters weekend.
McIlroy is nipping at his heels and is 11/5, setting up what could be an all-time weekend at Augusta. The Rory vs. Jordan rivalry is what we’ve all wanted and hoped for and to have it come together so soon, and at the game’s biggest event, is incredible. McIlroy has been in contention at the Masters before, but those blow-up holes have always prevented him from being there in the end.
This year, his chase for the career slam was not the overwhelming lead story, and Spieth’s chase for two straight, Jason Day, and Phil Mickelson took some spotlight. Those big numbers crept onto the card through the first two rounds but he has mitigated the damage with an almost perfect score on the par-5s.
While the two at the top will get all the publicity, there’s plenty of value down the odds board with the chasers. Spieth said on Friday night that with the way the wind is blowing, a player from well outside the top 25 could easily be ahead by a shot or two by the end of the day.
From the bottom to Spieth, it’s one of the most bunched-up leaderboards at the Masters in the last 20 years. Justin Rose, last year’s runner-up and an ace at Augusta, is now 40/1 after starting the week at 25/1. He’s five shots out but that’s not bad value given the potential for the leaders to come tumbling back to the pack.
