Tiger Woods duffs three wedge shots in the water at Congressional

Tiger Woods still has no timetable for if and when he’ll return to the PGA Tour, but if Monday’s exhibition at Congressional Country Club were any indication, it won’t be any time soon.

Woods, who briefly stretched before splashing three balls into the drink with a wedge from what appeared to be the front tee on Congo’s 10th hole, grimaced, sounded a painful “oh” and looked weeks — if not months — away from any comeback following two back surgeries last fall.

Woods has been sidelined since August, when he tied for 10th at the Wyndham Championship, the last tourney he played before undergoing his second and third back procedures in September and October. As has been the case since he announced the third operation, Woods provided no date for an eventual competitive start.

“If I knew, I’d tell you, because it would be fun to know,” Woods said during media day to boost the June 23-26 Quicken Loans National. “But I don’t know.”

Woods, who contended he still had Jack Nicklaus’ mark of 18 major titles (as well as Sam Snead’s record of 82 tour victories) in sight, said he would not take his rusty game anywhere until his body was completely ready.

“It’s frustrating not being able to play Augusta, Bay Hill, Doral, places I’ve played really well,” Woods said. “Sitting still is how you get better; that’s not in my nature.”
