John Daly finishes his first Champions Tour major by asking for a drink

John Daly is a non-factor in his maiden Champions Tour major but that doesn’t mean he’s not thirsty.

John Daly did not win his first 50-plus major event but the wildly popular Champions Tour rookie completed his T15 at the Regions Tradition in a way that only Long John could: with an eagle, a fist bump and the universal signal for “beverage, please.”

Daly, in just his second Champions Tour contest since turning 50 on April 28, did not give winner Bernhard Langer much to worry about in Sunday’s finale. The two-time victor of two majors on the junior circuit began his final round among the leaders but his closing 2-over 74 — thanks to a couple of bogeys and a pair of doubles — knocked him out of contention.

Oh well, there’s always next week. The chain-smoking Daly, who imbibes about a dozen Coca Colas on the rocks per day, will tee it up at the Senior PGA Championship -- one of a possible seven majors he’s eligible to play this year, including two he has won in the past, the British Open and PGA Championship.
