Henrik Stenson, who was 10-over through 16 holes of his second round and 9-over overall, blamed “minor neck and knee issues” for his withdrawal from Saturday morning’s completion of round two of the U.S. Open.

The 40-year-old Swede, who had just two holes to finish his second round, posted eight bogeys and a double in 16 holes on Friday.

Stenson, the winner of four PGA Tour events, kicked off his abbreviated stint at Oakmont with a 1-under 69 on Friday and even made the highlight reel with this eagle on the par-5 fourth hole:

Stenson, who was sitting three shots below the projected cut line, failed to arrive for his early Saturday tee time with Phil Mickelson and Justin Rose.
