U.S. Open 2016 leaderboard: Andrew Landry in the lead as Dustin Johnson, Jason Day chase

Andrew Landry burst onto the scene at the U.S. Open on Thursday, carding an opening round 66 to hold the first round lead. He hasn’t faded away since and once again finds himself in the lead, this time late on Saturday. Landry currently sits at 4-under and one stroke clear of the field.

Landry is playing in a major championship for the first time in his career, but doesn’t seem rattled by the moment. While many players have been very up and down on the round, Landry has been steady. He opened his round with six straight pars before recording a birdie on No. 7. He’s not nearly as well known or flashy as other players near the top of the leaderboard, but a steady, consistent game is proving to be very valuable this week.

Landry leads by a shot with Shane Lowry, Lee Westwood, Sergio Garcia and Dustin Johnson all trailing by a stroke at 3-under.

This is just the fourth U.S. Open the 29-year-old Lowry has played in. He carded his best finish with a T9 last year, but appears on the way to topping that this season. Lowry certainly has game to win big events, but like most of the rest of the top of the leaderboard, is yet to break through in a major championship. Putts like this will certainly help the cause.

Johnson opened the round as the leader. He’s been a little shaky at times, but has limited damage for the most part. He isn’t nearly as sharp tee-to-green as he was during the first two rounds. Instead, he’s been forced to scramble for some pars and has done a nice job for the most part of doing that.

Jason Day, the No. 1 player in the world, is also making a run into contention. He started the third round at 5-over, just one shot inside the cut line. He’s suddenly just four strokes off the lead at even par thanks to four birdies and an eagle on the round. Day is 5-under on his round, currently good for the best round of the day.

Here is a complete look at the leaderboard as the final groups approach the turn in the third round.
