U.S. Open live stream 2016: How to watch Sunday’s round online

OAKMONT, Pa. – The U.S. Open rolls toward the end on Sunday, with the conclusion of the third round and then an anticipated full final round at Oakmont Country Club.

The tournament has been behind schedule all weekend. Rain delayed play twice and then postponed it on Thursday, so the first and second rounds didn’t end until around lunchtime on Friday and Saturday, respectively. The USGA managed to cram the vast majority of third-round play onto the schedule for Saturday afternoon and evening, but there are still some loose ends to tie up on that score before final rounds get underway on Sunday.

It will be Shane Lowry on top of the leaderboard when play resumes on Sunday. Lowry is 3-under through 14 holes in the third round and 5-under for the tournament. That is good for a two-shot lead over the field. There are a total of six players under par heading into the final day. That group includes Dustin Johnson, Sergio Garcia and Lee Westwood. All three players are 2-under. Johnson began the third round with the lead, but wasn’t able to hold onto it. All three will join Lowry on the course when play resumes.

Players will be back on the course at 7 a.m. to resume the third round. Of the 67 players who made the cut, 25 still have holes to complete in the third round. The third round is expected to be finished by 9 a.m., giving the maintenance crew some time to prepare the course before the final round begins at 11 a.m. That is right on track with the usual Sunday schedule of a major championship, finally allowing the tournament to get back on schedule.

The final day won’t feature a handful of the world’s best players. Phil Mickelson met more U.S. Open disappointment, missing the cut in his 26th career start in the event, more than any other player in the 156-man field. Playing partners Rickie Fowler and Rory McIlroy struggled badly in their first two rounds and missed the cut, too, with Fowler carding a brutal plus-11 over his only 36 holes of the tournament.

Oakmont’s rough proved punishing for Fowler all weekend.

“If you’re not driving the ball on the fairway, then you’re not able to control the ball into the green, and it’s just going to be a long day,” Fowler said after his tournament finished Saturday.

Fowler only hit 14 of 28 fairways for the weekend, compared to a field average of 57 percent. His performance is a sort of Oakmont cautionary tale, at a course where severe rough makes it hard to get much of anything going from spots outside the fairway. That’ll be crucial on Sunday, especially as the course gets drier and faster after this week’s rain.

FOX will have wire-to-wire coverage of Sunday’s rounds, which will also be available online. The details for that are below, with all times Eastern.
