U.S. Open 2016 TV coverage and schedule for Sunday’s Round 3 and 4

American golf’s national championship looks like it will come down to the wire.

OAKMONT, Pa. – When the U.S. Open comes to Oakmont Country Club, it’s tight.

In 2007, Angel Cabrera beat Tiger Woods and Jim Furyk by one stroke apiece. In 1994, Ernie Els beat Colin Montgomerie and Loren Roberts in a playoff. In 1983, Larry Nelson beat Tom Watson by one stroke. In 1973, Johnny Miller beat John Schlee by one stroke. In 1962, Jack Nicklaus beat Arnold Palmer in a playoff.

Not since Ben Hogan’s six-stroke margin over Sam Snead in 1953 has the national championship come to Western Pennsylvania and not been a dogfight until the very last golf ball went down a hole.

Oakmont is a brutal test of golf, and it has a leveling effect that keeps large fields close together. The top of this year’s leaderboards includes superstars in their primes (Dustin Johnson), superstars out of their primes (Lee Westwood), golfers you’ve likely never heard of (Andrew Landry), and longtime contenders looking to finally close the deal in a major (Sergio Garcia and Johnson himself).

It’s even got world No. 1 Jason Day lurking after a strong Saturday, while some of his peers at the top of the World Golf Ranking, Rory McIlroy and Rickie Fowler, missed the cut altogether.

This year’s championship has storylines aplenty, and there’s going to be a lot of good golf to watch on Sunday. The tournament’s third round should finally wrap up during the morning, and then the field will get to work on the competition’s final 18 holes. FOX will cover the action close wire-to-wire, and there are also a handful of streaming options.

The first day of the tournament ended early because of rain, but that’s very much in the past now. Oakmont has seen two straight days of sunshine, and the damp conditions of Thursday and early Friday should be giving way to a firm, fast terrain that punishes players who don’t keep excellent control of their golf balls.

Oakmont’s always a test. The course should be at its best on Sunday, presenting one of its toughest challenges yet to some of the world’s very best golfers. That figures to be worth watching, so here’s full information on how to do that. All times Eastern.
