2016 U.S. Open leaderboard: Dustin Johnson maintains one-shot lead, pending rules violation

Dustin Johnson is in the lead as the 2016 U.S. Open comes down the stretch. Or at least we think. Johnson is currently 4-under, one stroke ahead of the field, but there is a pending rules violation. USGA officials alerted Johnson that they will review whether he caused the ball to move prior to a putt on the fifth hole. While Johnson was alerted on No. 12, the review won’t happen until after his round.

So, Johnson could be in the lead. Or Johnson could be tied for the lead. It all depends on the ruling, which will come after a rules official reviewed the situation as it happened. It’s created one of the strangest situations as the entire field wraps up the tournament not knowing what Johnson’s actual score is.

For now, Johnson is 4-under and one stroke ahead of Shane Lowry. Lowry is 4-over on his round, but still right in the mix coming down the stretch. If Lowry is able to make a surge down the stretch, he could still come away with the championship. There is also the chance that he is currently tied for the lead.

Jim Furyk is currently the leader in the clubhouse, having posted 1-under. That is likely going to still come up short, barring a significant collapse from the leaders coming in. Here is a complete look at the leaderboard and where things stand.
