British Open live stream 2016: How to watch Friday’s round online

The 2016 Open Championship rolls on to the second round on Friday at Royal Troon, and viewers will have plenty of options to follow the action live as it happens, if they can manage to stay awake. Players will begin teeing it up in the second round shortly after 1:30 a.m. ET with play continuing until roughly 4 p.m.

As they did on Thursday, the Golf Channel will be there to broadcast from the very first shot of the day. No major championship broadcast had ever started from the very first shot of the day until Thursday. With that extensive coverage come several options to watch live online. There is a simulcast stream of the television coverage that will also begin at 1:30 a.m. Viewers interested in the opening shot of the rounds can follow every one with a stream dedicated to the first tee.

A featured holes stream will focus on Nos. 6, 7 and 8. That will allow viewers to watch every group come through the famous Postage Stamp par-3. Those viewers interested in some of the top groups will also be in luck with a featured group stream following two of the most notable groups of the round. Dustin Johnson, Martin Kaymer and Russell Knox will make up the first featured group. The trio is scheduled to tee off at 4:03 a.m. Kaymer will begin the second round tied for second place at 5-under. Johnson is fresh off a win at the U.S. Open but has ground to make up after shooting an even-par 71 in the opening round. Danny Willett, Rickie Fowler and Jason Day will comprise the second featured group. They are scheduled to step to the first tee at 9:26 a.m. Day, the No. 1 player in the world, got off to a rough start, shooting a 2-over 73 in the first round.

The entire field will begin Friday chasing Phil Mickelson. Lefty nearly made history by shooting the first 62 in major championship history on Thursday. His attempt at a 62 just lipped out, however, forcing him to settle for a 63. That was still good enough to post 8-under and put him three strokes clear of the field. Mickelson is among the morning wave on Friday and will begin his second round at 3:25 a.m.

Weather will likely be more of a factor on Friday than it was during a pristine first round, but the forecast is still not severe. The field will have to deal with more wind, and there is likely to be some rain. What that does to the scoring remains to be seen, but it doesn’t seem like we’ll see another player chase a 62 this week.

Here is a complete look at the second round coverage, including all four live streams. All times Eastern.
