2016 British Open live stream: How to watch Saturday’s round online

It’s moving day at the 2016 Open Championship, and for most of the field that means chasing Phil Mickelson. Mickelson sprinted out ahead of the field on Thursday and then followed it up with a solid second round to grab the 36-hole lead. Whether he can continue to stave off the charging field remains to be seen and viewers will be able to follow the action thanks to extensive coverage from Golf Channel and NBC.

Play at Royal Troon will begin at 3:25 a.m. ET and Golf Channel will be there to provide coverage nearly from the start. The television broadcast will start at 4 a.m. and continue until 7 a.m. At that point the broadcast will move to NBC where it will continue for the rest of the round. In all, there will be more than 10 hours of live coverage.

Coverage won’t be limited to just the television broadcast either. The two networks will supplement the main broadcast with live online streams, giving viewers multiple options to watch the third round. Viewers can watch the entire round thanks to a live simulcast stream of the TV broadcast. Golf Channel will once again provide a first tee stream, showing every player in the field hitting their opening shot. There will also be a featured holes stream and a featured group steam. The featured group stream will focus on the pairing of Jordan Spieth and Brandt Snedeker in the morning. They are scheduled to tee off at 3:55 a.m. and the afternoon featured group will probably be picked up in progress, maybe a hole in to Rickie Fowler and Tyrrell Hatton’s round.

Mickelson hasn’t won a major since he claimed the 2013 Open Championship. That was his last win period. The 46-year-old has struggled in recent years and has been especially off his game in major championships thus far. Mickelson missed the cut at both the Masters and U.S. Open. Yet here he is, once again in contention on the weekend of a major. There is a lot of golf between Mickelson and a sixth major championship, but if he keeps up his early standard, he would be in line for one of the most memorable major championship victories in golf history.

To do so, Mickelson will have to hold off an impressive list of chasers and likely battle through the elements. The wind and rain picked up significantly on Friday and could be a factor again throughout the weekend. Only 10 players are 4-under or better heading into Saturday, but it’s a strong group. Mickelson leads at 10-under with Henrik Stenson just behind at 9-under. Keegan Bradley is 7-under while defending Open champion Zach Johnson is 5-under. Charl Schwartzel and Sergio Garcia are both lurking back at 4-under. If the leaders falter on moving day, it could bring more of the field into contention.
