Jamie Donaldson needs a snorkel at Royal Troon

When you’re well out of it, even in a major, it’s best to keep things in perspective, as Jamie Donaldson did when an errant shot led him into the gorse.

Michael Madrid-USA TODAY Sports

The Royal Troon weather may be frightful, but Jamie Donaldson had no idea when he went out early in Sunday’s British Open finale that he should have packed a wetsuit and scuba gear.

A wicked wayward shot on the par-4 12th sent the 2014 European Ryder Cup hero far afield searching for his golf ball — and diving deep into the gorse.

The 40-year-old from Wales was well out of contention before he disappeared into the bushes; the quadruple-bogey 8 dropped him to 7-over for the day and 12-over for the tournament.
