Andrew ‘Beef’ Johnston goes on hamburger tour in New York, signs deal with Arby’s

Andrew Johnston has just the beefy countenance and love of all cuts of cow to make him the perfect pitchman for Arby’s, the fast-food purveyor whose logo will feature prominently on the PGA Championship rookie’s wardrobe.

Andrew Johnston, at 200/1 odds, is not about to throw a scare into Dustin Johnson and the other heavy favorites this week at Baltusrol. But the fan fave who sealed his improbable rise to fame with an entertaining eighth-place finish at the British Open and who goes by “Beef” threw down on his own personal burger tour this weekend at three different stops in New York City (via Beef’s Instagram).

Johnston, who will start his first PGA Championship on Thursday, also signed a new endorsement deal with Arby’s and took a turn behind the counter serving customers at Arby’s Times Square locale.

The 27-year-old Englishman will feature Arby’s logos on his cap and shirt during this week’s final major of the men’s season -- which only makes sense for the guy who has nurtured his nickname (as a kid, his hair looked like “a piece of beef,” he told For The Win) since childhood with a number of antics, like that time he drove a hamburger off a tee.

So this happened today!

Johnston began his climb to acclaim by pledging to “get hammered” in celebration of his first European Tour victory at the Spanish Open in April.

If we had to hazard a guess, though, it would be his cattle-stamped wedge that won him the Arby’s contract.
