PGA Championship 2016: Tee times and pairings for Friday’s second round

Storms are supposed to come to Baltusrol on Friday at the PGA Championship.

Now there are just three more rounds of major championship golf left this year. It’s a sad, sad realization, but Friday is expected to be a long day at the PGA Championship.

This is the one day that the weather is supposed to impact the schedule. Jordan Spieth said after his round on Thursday that he was preparing for the possibility of “stop and start” golf. The forecast is spotty, and it’s supposed to come heavy overnight, opening up the possibility of a delay early in the morning if the course needs work to be playable at the start of round two. Obviously, any slight weather delay can have a pretty big impact on the schedule when the field has not been cut down in half yet.

There are still 156 players in the field, the full bursting-at-the-seams group that requires groups of three off split tees for the first two days. The first balls are in the air at 7 a.m. ET while the last group goes at 2:15 p.m., setting up a finish just after 7 p.m. That leaves about 70 to 80 minutes of cushion before darkness falls. If there’s a delay longer than that, then we’re probably looking at a cut that’s not made until Saturday morning.

The viewers from home are in the same boat on Friday as they were on Thursday, with the TV broadcast not coming on the air until 1 p.m. ET. That leaves a large six-hour block from the first tee time until TV goes live, so you’re going to miss some pretty big names playing in the morning wave. On Thursday, Rickie Fowler posted his best first round ever at a major, but we didn’t see a shot of it live. The biggest names in the morning on Friday include Jordan Spieth, Dustin Johnson, Henrik Stenson, Danny Willett, Sergio Garcia and Bubba Watson. Fortunately, those are the six players in the two marquee group streams on PGA.com. Anyone else, such as second place Martin Kaymer, and you’re out of luck.

The afternoon TNT broadcast will focus on the power trio of Jason Day, Phil Mickelson and Rory McIlroy. The No. 1 ranked player in the world, Day, is the only one of the three under par. McIlroy will have to grind to make the cut, starting at 4-over after a frustrating opening round that required 35 putts. Phil got back into it with three birdies over his last seven holes to come in at 1-over. So all three are coming from different spots in the second round, but expect to see their every shot in the afternoon broadcast.

Here’s the full tee sheet for Friday’s second round:
