WGC Bridgestone Invitational live stream: How to watch online, TV coverage and more

The WGC-Bridgestone Invitational would probably rather not have its final round right in the middle of a long holiday weekend, but this is what the chaotic 2016 schedule has wrought. The annual stop at Firestone Country Club in Akron is one of the bigger events of the summer. It draws a loaded field thanks to all that free WGC money and world rankings points. The course has its flaws and critics, but it generally produces a big name winner and the ball strikers on tour enjoy it. And it was always set up as a perfect August lead-in for the season’s final major, the PGA Championship.

That has all been thrown out the window thanks to the Olympic Games in Rio. This is the part of the 2016 schedule where everything is jumbled until September’s FedExCup. A few tournaments are in their normal slot, but it’s mostly a mess and forces you to constantly check the schedule for events that have always had long-running and easily remembered spots in the lineup.

The WGC-Bridgestone’s status should take a hit playing the final round on a Sunday when everyone will, most likely, be outside doing things to celebrate the holiday and take in a long weekend. But those are the breaks. This is the PGA Tour’s own party, so they can happily live with the consequences of their own scrambled schedule.

The good news for the Tour and the people in Akron is that they have the No. 1 player in the world on top of the leaderboard and playing in the Sunday final pairing. Jason Day will tee off just after 2 p.m. ET alongside Scott Piercy, who shares the lead at 5-under. This would seem to be a course that Day would carve up and run away with his second straight WGC title but Piercy has played well in many of the biggest events over the past year and can push him on Sunday. Big names like Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth, and Bubba Watson are all also within varying degrees of striking distance.

CBS will expand their typical three-hour weekend broadcast to four hours for this WGC event. It’s one of their bigger tournaments of the summer along with the aforementioned PGA Championship. The two usually come in August with The Barclays, the opening event of the FedExCup Playoffs, for a strong finish on the network before they shift over to football.
