PGA Championship 2016: TV schedule and live stream for Sunday’s afternoon coverage

Saturday afternoon at Baltusrol devolved into a nightmare for the PGA. The weather horn blew at 2:15 p.m. ET calling the players off the course, and they never returned. The PGA took heat for not putting the players in groups of three and using two tees early in the morning, which would have resulted in a completed or nearly complete third round.

Instead, the leaders still had to play their entire third round and fourth round with Sunday’s forecast looking just as brutal as the washout from Saturday afternoon. Fortunately, they’ve caught a break so far with the weather. There has been some rain and it’s so soggy that they have put “preferred lies” in place at a major for the first time that anyone can remember. But there’s been no lightning so far and they have not had a suspension since that third round resumed at 7 a.m. ET on Sunday morning.

Mother Nature willing, the afternoon will sneak past the storms just like the morning. The PGA of America set out an aggressive final-round tee sheet, opting not to re-pair the players according to score and putting only nine-minute intervals between each group. The final tee time is supposed to go at 3:16 p.m., setting up a finish around 7:30, which would be safely before darkness. Sunset is just after 8 p.m. in New Jersey, but it may become unplayable earlier than that if it stays this dark and gloomy.

CBS will take over the coverage for the afternoon, bookending the majors season with Sunday at the Masters and now Sunday at the PGA. They’re desperately hoping the storms hold off because all they did on Saturday was show a bunch of old footage from last year’s PGA, interspersed with a couple interviews of stressed out PGA officials and bored players. A Monday finish is obviously a blow to the TV partners too.

Jim Nantz and Nick Faldo will have the call from the 18th tower starting at 2 p.m. There will definitely be an odd dynamic with the players not re-paired. You won’t get that kind of two-man battle we got at The Open with Henrik Stenson and Phil Mickelson together in the anchor pairing of the tee sheet. But there’s a still a tasty leaderboard with Stenson, Jason Day, Brooks Koepka and Jimmy Walker all right there.
