2016 Ryder Cup viewer’s guide: How to watch live online, TV schedule, radio and more

The 2016 Ryder Cup tees off on Friday at Hazeltine in Chaska, Minn., and runs through Sunday, with fans able to watch greatly expanded live TV coverage as well as follow the action online and on the radio.

While Europe has dominated the event of late, winning eight of the last 10 matches, the U.S. is the oddsmakers’ favorite to end a three-game losing streak and avoid becoming the first American squad in the history of the biennial event to lose four straight cups. Playing in front of a friendly midwestern crowd, this could be the year for Team USA — though home cooking did not do much for the 12-man unit that blew a final-day lead four years ago at Medinah.

Golf Channel (Friday) and NBC (Saturday and Sunday) will share broadcasting duties that will encompass more than 25 hours of live coverage, with the final singles’ group’s entire back nine airing without commercial interruption. In addition, the NBC Sports Group will team up with several national advertisers to use its “Playing Through” feature that will show about one-third of the commercial breaks on a split screen.The ad will play, in full sound, on the right side of your TV screen, with uninterrupted Ryder Cup coverage, but with the announcers’ voices muted, on the left side. So that’s a welcome development that will at least keep the golf on non-stop.

Mike Tirico, formerly of ESPN, will anchor the three days of NBC/GC coverage as well as Sunday’s trophy presentation. Johnny Miller, Nick Faldo (Friday morning), and 1991 Ryder Cup player David Feherty (Saturday morning) will rotate as lead analysts in the 18th tower. The coverage marks Feherty’s debut as a broadcaster for the event.

Viewers may watch Golf Channel for Friday’s coverage of morning and afternoon sessions of four foursome and four fourball matches. NBC takes over for Saturday’s two sessions of fourball and foursomes, and continues broadcasting Sunday’s 12 singles matches.

There will also be extensive online and radio coverage available. Golf Channel and RyderCup.com will have a “First Tee Experience” stream up and running as well, showing off that incomparable arena. That will run through the morning matches as the players come to that first tee and the crowd loses it. Here is a complete lineup of this week’s Ryder Cup media coverage:
