The first eight of 28 possible points at the 2016 Ryder Cup will be up for grabs on Friday as the players tee up at Hazeltine National Golf Club for the first time. After a year off in 2015, the Ryder Cup is back to claim its place as the most anticipated event in golf.

Golf Channel will handle the Day 1 coverage from Hazeltine.
The event is back on United States soil for the first time since 2012 and the crowd at Hazeltine seems primed for an intense atmosphere. The players will get the first taste of what’s to come with alternate-ball foursomes to begin the day on Friday. From all indications, it’s going to be quite a spectacle on the grounds. Fortunately for everyone not in Minnesota, NBC and Golf Channel will combine for extensive coverage.
The first matches are scheduled to begin at 8:35 a.m. ET and Golf Channel will be there to provide live coverage of every shot, starting at 8:30 a.m. The coverage will run throughout the day, with the best ball foursomes expected to begin sometime around 1 p.m. The pairings for the afternoon will be announced following the first four matches.
In addition to the main television coverage, Golf Channel will also provide two online streams. Viewers will be able to watch every shot live online thanks to a live TV simulcast stream. Golf Channel will also have a stream dedicated to the first tee.
The Ryder Cup has not been kind to the United States in recent history with Europe winning six of the last seven events dating back to 2002. That includes the last three. The United States hasn’t won on European soil since 1993. Fortunately for the American’s chances, this one is on home soil.
Getting off to a good start can help your chances, but it’s hardly a guarantee. The United States started well in 2014, claiming 2.5 of the 4 points available in the morning matches. The Americans went on to lose by five full points.
