Ryder Cup 2016 live stream: How to watch Friday’s matches online

It’s already been an eventful week at the 2016 Ryder Cup with some solid banter between the teams, and even a little controversy. And that’s all happened without a player hitting a single shot that counted. That will change on Friday when the best event in golf begins for the 41st time.

Golf Channel and NBC will combine on the television coverage this week, but it will be Golf Channel handling the Day 1 coverage. The TV broadcast will begin at 8:30 a.m. and run until at least 7 p.m. That will allow viewers to catch all of the action live as it unfolds. Viewers will also have options to stream online with Golf Channel providing a simulcast stream of the TV coverage and a stream dedicated to the first tee.

The European team heads to Hazeltine National Golf Club riding an impressive dominant streak. Europe has won six of the last seven Ryder Cups, and eight of the last 10. While the United States dominated the early years of the event, Europe has had a significant advantage since 1985. The good news for the United States is the event is at home this year. Four of the United States’ last five victories came on home soil.

Day 1 will begin with alternate-shot foursomes in the morning before shifting to best ball foursomes in the afternoon. There will be four matches in each session with a total of eight points on the line on Friday. Europe held a 5-3 lead after the opening day last year.

There will be plenty of familiar faces on both sides, with the 12-man rosters stacked with Ryder Cup veterans. For the United States, a lot of attention on Friday will be on the pairing of Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed. While the United States struggled in 2014, Reed and Spieth played very well together. They earned 2.5 points as a pairing. They will try to jump start the Americans on Friday, playing in the first match of the day.
