The U.S. is off to its best start in decades, taking all four morning matches on Friday. Can they keep it up in the afternoon?
The United States is off to its best start in decades at the Ryder Cup, taking all four morning foursomes matches over the three-times-running European champions. It’s a contrasting bright spot from the disaster at Gleneagles in 2014, and it set the morning tone for an American beatdown of Europe.
Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed, who were unbeaten together in the last edition of the event, knocked off Open champion Henrik Stenson and Olympic gold medalist Justin Rose in just 16 holes. This Reed clincher sealed the deal for the Americans’ first win.

Those two teams will hold a rematch Friday afternoon in the fourballs — a format in which all players play their own ball. The best score between the two is taken on the hole, and scored in match-play format.
All Americans that sat out the morning session will tap in for the U.S. team, while Zach Johnson & Jimmy Walker, and Phil Mickelson & Rickie Fowler get the afternoon off after wins. Darren Clarke brings just two new players off the bench for the afternoon — Rafa Cabrera Bello and Danny Willett.

2:15 p.m.: Dustin Johnson & Matt Kuchar (USA) vs. Rory McIlroy & Thomas Pieters (EUR)
