All eyes are on Tiger Woods this week at Torrey Pines, with the 2017 Farmers Insurance Open getting underway on Thursday. The San Diego course is as favorable a location as possible for the sport’s biggest star to return to competition.

Woods last played a PGA Tour event in August 2015, missing the better part of the last year and a half thanks to back surgery. He did play in December at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas, though that wasn’t an official Tour event.

“We all know I haven’t played a full schedule in a very long time, so this is an unknown,” Woods said Wednesday. “I’ve been away from it for so long. I’ve played one tournament in that 15-month span and I haven’t played a full-field event. I haven’t got into the rhythm of playing weeks on end in a season.”

Woods has won eight tournaments as a professional at Torrey Pines, including the 2008 U.S. Open, the last of his 14 major titles.

In Thursday’s opening round, Woods tees off at 1:40 p.m. ET, which comes a full 80 minutes before Golf Channel begins its coverage of the tournament. It’s likely that Golf Channel’s pregame shows will still cover his every shot to bridge that gap in the coverage window.

Update: PGA TOUR Live announced Thursday morning that they would stream the start of Tiger’s round on their service. You just need to buy a subscription.

Woods starts on the first tee on the South Course in the first round, partnered with Jason Day and Dustin Johnson, currently ranked first and third in the World Golf rankings. Woods ranks 663rd. It will be a challenge to try and not keep up with those two, but Tiger seems to be entering the week with realistic expectations.
