Tiger Woods’ return to the PGA Tour may be done before happy hour on Friday. Woods will begin the second round of the Farmers Insurance Open in 133rd place, obviously needing a low round to get back on the safe side of the cut line.

Tiger’s first official PGA Tour round in some 522 days ended with a 4-over 76. It was not an all-out disaster, but it certainly wasn’t pretty and he’s left himself with work to do on Friday.

The good news for Tiger and Big Cat fans is that he’ll play on Torrey Pines’ North Course in the second round. The North Course is debuting a slick new Tom Weiskopf-led redesign this week, one that includes fresh bent grass greens. Those are far more preferable than the South Course’s poa annua, and the pros love them because they roll more true. The scoring is also easier on the North, and the traditional 3-shot disparity that’s existed for more than a decade held up in the first round this year.

So Tiger should have plenty more birdie chances in front him on Friday. The winds are supposed to be up and it’s uncharacteristically cold right now in the San Diego area, but those are unfavorable conditions everyone in the field will have to face. The half of the draw playing on the South course may get brutalized.

Woods is always in the marquee headline group, and the PGA Tour set up a tasty trio this week with the eight-time Torrey winner playing alongside Dustin Johnson and Jason Day. While Tiger scuffled around on Thursday, so did the world No. 1 Day and reigning Player of the Year DJ. All three will try to get it back in the second round playing on PGA Tour Live’s featured groups stream, teeing off No. 10 North at 12:30 p.m. ET.

Most of the TV broadcast equipment has always been set up on the South Course, which holds the final 36 weekend holes after the cut is made. Golf Channel flipped back and forth between the two quite a bit on Thursday, however, so they should be set up well for the back half of Tiger’s round on Friday. Golf Channel will be live by 3 p.m. ET, so Tiger could have two hours or so left in his round. If you want to watch his entire round from the start, PGA Tour Live’s streaming broadcast will be following him from the very first ball in the air. They will have their entire setup on the North Course ready to go at 12:30, showing every shot in his group until the TV window starts at 3 p.m.
