Farmers Insurance Open 2017: Tee times and pairings for Saturday

Tiger is gone, but Phil is still here putting on a show for his hometown crowd.

Well, that’s not how this was supposed to go. The Farmers Insurance Open is the unofficial start to the PGA Tour season because it has a fairly loaded field and, thus, draws a wider audience. That begins with Tiger Woods, who missed the cut and will not be around for the final 36 holes. Not only is Tiger gone — so is world No. 1 Jason Day, reigning Player of the Year Dustin Johnson, Rickie Fowler, Jimmy Walker, and Brooks Koepka. By Friday evening, it felt like San Diego resident Phil Mickelson was the last man standing.

So there has definitely been some zip taken out of a highly anticipated tournament. While so much firepower was wiped out early, the leaders are still a pretty strong collection of players. Justin Rose remains on top of the leaderboard at 8-under, backing up his opening round 65 on the easier North Course with a strong 1-under 71 on the tough South Course. Rose is a major winner, gold medalist, and one of the elite players in the world. Having the Englishman in front is not the worst outcome after losing Tiger, DJ, Day etc.

Rose will play with Adam Hadwin and Brandt Snedeker in the final group on Saturday. Snedeker is also comfortably among that upper echelon of world-class players, and he’s the defending champion here. Sneds always seems to make hay out on this West Coast swing at the start of the year, and given his track record at Torrey, it’s no surprise to see him just one shot off the lead at the midpoint. Meanwhile, at last week’s CareerBuilder Challenge, Hadwin became just the eighth player ever to break 60 on the PGA Tour. So his name has been in the headlines recently and his game is obviously in form.

The Rose-Hadwin-Snedeker trio will be last off the No. 1 tee at 12:40 p.m. ET, setting up a finish around 6 p.m. on CBS. With limited daylight hours, and operating on an East Coast TV schedule, the Tour needed to put the remaining field in groups of three and send them off split tees. So the entire field will be rolled out there in the usual two-hour tee-time window that’s put in play for that kind of arrangement.

Here’s the full tee sheet for Saturday’s third round (all times ET):
