Farmers Insurance Open 2017 schedule: Time, TV coverage for Round 4

Hello, friends. Let’s watch golf instead of football on Sunday.

The start of the PGA Tour season may be overlooked as the rest of the country follows the conclusion of college football and the NFL playoffs. The first couple of months of the year are not the peak of the season, and the stakes aren’t the highest. But the West Coast swing and the Hawaiian swing comprise the most scenic and beautiful stretch of venues on the PGA Tour. It’s not really close.

These sites on the swing out west are more than just pretty, too. They’re often loaded with history and have long resumes as some of the most respected courses in the United States. Torrey Pines can be included among this group, and it will take the Sunday spotlight on the Tour this week.

It’s not hard to find scenery to fill the gaps between shots. To the frustration of many close watchers of the PGA Tour, CBS probably does it way too often at the seaside public course in San Diego. The network actually doesn’t show enough golf.

But after almost five months away from golf due to football, CBS returns this weekend to its PGA Tour coverage. Jim Nantz exchanges Nick Faldo for Phil Simms to call AFC games each Sunday. But his first true love, of course, is golf, and this West Coast swing serves as a nice warm-up for the Masters in April.

CBS will have the two weekend rounds for these next four events — the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey, the Waste Management Phoenix Open, the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, and Riviera. Then comes the hiatus for college hoops and March Madness before we get that annual “Hello, friends!” at Augusta National.

Sunday’s final round schedule runs a little longer than the normal final round for CBS on Tour. It usually tries to finish right at 6 p.m. ET, with a few exceptions like the Memorial and some of the stops out west. This final round of the Farmers Insurance Open is supposed to run until 6:30 but will probably go a little longer based on how slow things have been going all week at Torrey.

The final trio of Brandt Snedeker, Patrick Rodgers, and Tony Finau will tee off at 1:15 p.m. ET.
