As you prepare for another workaday week, consider the plight of Shugo Imahira, a professional golfer who never made it to his office on Friday but still pocketed a cool $43,000.
Disqualified WGC golfer still walks away with easy $43,000 at HSBC Champions
DQ’d WGC player can think of 43,000 reasons why it doesn’t suck to be a professional golfer.

Imahira’s place of business is the golf course and last week he was expected on the tee at Sheshan International GC for a 10:35 a.m. (local time) to continue toiling away at the WGC-HSBC Champions event in Shanghai. Seems the winner of three tournaments in his native Japan misread his tee time and when he was a no-show officials disqualified him.
Not to worry, though, because if one is fortunate enough to participate in a no-cut World Golf Championship tourney, with its lucrative prize package and talented cast of characters, and where even the player who finishes DFL receives lovely parting gifts, one never walks away empty-handed. So despite his DQ for being late to work, for his troubles Imahira — ranked 102nd in the world and with a 72-79 on his scorecard before his early dismissal — banked a check for $43,000, the sum the last-place finisher earns.
We’ve said before that the WGCs are quite possibly the sweetest deal in sports and this is the latest example. What a time to be alive!
