Update 2 p.m.: The Par-3 contest has been canceled due to inclement weather and the course is closed for the remainder of the day Wednesday.

One of the most uniquely entertaining events leading up the start of the Masters Tournament is the par-3 contest, which is held annually the Wednesday before the tournament starts. The contest is played on a nine-hole course at Augusta National and is one of the less serious parts of the tournament, and both past and current golfers are welcome to play.

The holes are as short as 70 yards and as long as just 140. According to Masters.com, there have been a total of 80 holes-in-one made over the course of the past par-3 contests. Last year, we saw nine.

After the nine holes are played, the golfer with the most favorable score against par wins. Ironically, no par-3 contest winner has then won the Masters the same year.

How to watch the par-3 contest

Time: Noon

TV: From 3-5 p.m. ET, ESPN will air the contest, with an encore telecast at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN2. ESPN’s Sean McDonough will anchor the Par-3 Contest telecast along with analysts Andy North and Curtis Strange, and Tom Rinaldi will handle the interviews.

Live stream: Masters.com will carry the coverage, along with WatchESPN.
