As expected, rain forced the cancellation of the 2017 Par 3 Competition at Augusta National on Wednesday. It was the first time in the event’s 57-year history. The main weather concern for Thursday’s start of the 2017 Masters will be strong gusty winds.
Masters 2017 weather forecast: Now wind after Wednesday’s rain
Rain washed out Wednesday’s Par 3 at Augusta National, while drier, winds will make round 1 difficult.


The main storm center that brought the showers and storms across the southeastern United States will pass to the north of Georgia. With it will be very strong gusty winds out of the west. For the golfers, it will feel more like St. Andrews in Scotland than Augusta National.
THURSDAY - Round 1 of The Masters:
Winds are the main story through the day. From sun up to sun down winds will be out of the west between 15 and 25 mph. Gusts will be 30 to at times 40 mph, especially in the afternoon. Skies will be partly sunny in the morning and mostly sunny by the afternoon but cooler. Temperatures around 8 a.m. Thursday will be near 60 but it will only warm to about 65 for the afternoon.
FRIDAY - Round 2 of The Masters:
Remains cool and sunny for Round 2 of the 2017 Masters. Morning temperatures at 8 a.m. will be in the middle 40s and winds out of the west between 10 to 15 mph. Midday Friday, mostly sunny and temperatures near 60 but winds still westerly between 10 to 20 mph. Middle 60s for the afternoon under mostly sunny skies with continued westerly winds of 10 to 20 mph.
WEEKEND - Rounds 3 and 4 of The Masters:
Plenty of sunshine and less wind for both Saturday and Sunday at Augusta National. Morning temperatures both days will start off in the middle to upper 40s. Saturday will see afternoon temperatures reach near 70 degrees with Sunday being the warmest day of the tournament reaching the middle to upper 70s in the afternoon.
