Masters 2017: TV schedule and coverage for Saturday’s Round 3

The third round begins at Augusta National.

The Masters moves to its third round on Saturday. Golf’s “tradition unlike any other” is set up for an exciting final two days, as the weather at Augusta National Golf Club is expected to clear up after heavy winds complicated Thursday’s and Friday’s rounds.

The leaderboard is tight at the top, with the kind of parity that tends to lead to dramatic finishes on Sundays. Players from every level of the World Golf Ranking have nonzero chances to win the green jacket. Nobody’s come close to running away, although improving conditions might allow for some lower scores going forward.

Maybe the most compelling story is Sergio Garcia, who has yet another chance to win the first major of his illustrious career. The Spaniard has been to the altar before, with four top-two major finishes, but he’s never managed to close the deal in a career that stretches back to before the turn of the millennium. Garcia’s contended and failed so many times that this doesn’t feel new, but it’d nonetheless be cool if he could succeed.

Young Belgian Thomas Pieters is one of the stories of the tournament, and he’ll also have a real chance to win. Pieters is a former NCAA national champion who turned pro early, had a breakout year, and is now at the top of the pack at Augusta as a 25-year-old. He’s played excellent golf over the first two days.

Good stories abound beyond Garcia and Pieters, though. Rickie Fowler is in contention at a major for the first time since 2014, when he made a habit of finishing top-five in these events. Fred Couples is set for a late tee time 25 years after he won the Masters in 1992 and one year after missing the tournament for the first time in two decades. Can you imagine the Augusta galleries if Couples makes a weekend run? Couples being in contention is one of the best things about this year’s Masters, full stop.

We’ve also got Phil Mickelson in the hunt, Jordan Spieth not far from it, and a couple of other Cinderella stories that could come to fruition. This tournament has some excellent storylines in it right now, and even as the leaderboard shifts, it seems a guarantee we’ll have a fascinating golf weekend. I’m looking forward to it.

The tournament moves to CBS on Saturday, after it started the week on ESPN. Here’s full television and streaming information for the third round. All times are Eastern:
