2017 Masters leaderboard: Jordan Spieth charges toward the final group

It must be the weekend at Augusta, because Spieth’s cooking.

Jordan Spieth has played the Masters four times in his career, including this weekend. In the first three, he played in the final group on Sunday. He’s positioning himself to do it a fourth time this year, as he’s charged into second place at Augusta National by dominating the course on Saturday. He’s made moving day his own.

Spieth began the day at even par for the tournament. He had a good Friday, after a quadruple-bogey marred his opening round on Thursday. He really kicked into gear on Saturday, moving to 5-under through 14 holes. Nobody’s had a bigger day.

Spieth is still chasing Charley Hoffman, who led the tournament by four shots after Thursday and was in a four-way tie at the top after Friday. Spieth had been well down the leaderboard after Thursday and just on the fringe of contention ahead of Saturday, but he’s gotten to a point where only Hoffman is ahead of him.

A bunch of players are still in contention behind Hoffman and Spieth, of course. Sergio Garcia remains solidly in the hunt to win his first major championship. Justin Rose, Ryan Moore, Adam Scott, and Rickie Fowler are all right there, and a few more players wouldn’t need that many things to go right to have a chance.

The leaderboard at Masters.com is the fastest-refreshing way to keep up with the tournament. Here’s a snapshot of the leaderboard at 5:40 p.m. Saturday:
