Masters leaderboard 2017: Results, leaderboard, highlights, and more from Sunday’s final round

What a finish at Augusta. After separating themselves from the field, Justin Rose and Sergio Garcia traded back-and-forth shots down the stretch at Augusta National.

Sergio fired a big shot on 15, hitting the pin with his approach to the par-5 and burying the eagle putt. Rose responded with a birdie on 16 as they went shot-for-shot and hole-for-hole to close out The Masters.

With Garcia and Rose tied for the lead after 72 holes, the 2017 Masters went to sudden death. And Garcia ended it on the first hole, working the 18th clinically to finally finish it.

Rose clears the stage. With two putts to win, Sergio buries the birdie, watching as it drifts towards the right lip, take a short victory lap, and hit the bottom of the cup.

Rose tops his punch from the pine straw and ends up next to Sergio’s tee shot. Which gives him a front row sea to Sergio throw a dart in to about 8 feet.

Rose answers with an approach that’s good, but still outside Sergio’s.

In all likelihood Sergio has two shots for The Masters here.

And we’re off. Rose up first and he puts his into the trees, gets a kick towards the fairway, but ends up blocked by a large tree branch.

And he misses. Left the putt outside the hole the entire time. Looked a bit tentative with a slippery putt. PLAYOFF.

Rose burns the edge on the high side and cleans up for par. Sergio all alone with a putt to win The Masters...

Rose gets a nice bounce on 18 to leave his approach to about 6 feet and HERE COMES SERGIO FLAG HUNTING. Sergio to about four feet and Nantz raises his voice.

Sergio briefly takes the advantage on 17 after Rose put his approach into the bunker. Like the hole before, though, he left the putt short.

AND THEN ROSE MISSES. Rose can’t clean up from the sand, leaving Sergio about three feet to tie. He makes that center cut and we’re on to 18 tied up.

Sergio follows up his eagle on 15 by sticking his tee shot on the par-3 16. Rose does the same from the other side of the hole, outside of Sergio. Rose buries the putt and then ... Sergio leaves it short.

Rose up 1 with 2 to go.

SERGIO MADE PAR FROM THE HAZARD ON 13. Fun! Justin Rose misses an opportunity to go three ahead after missing a short one. Does Sergio have life? Maybe! That just felt like a momentum shift.

After back to back bogeys, Sergio Garcia offically has company in second place two behind Justin Rose. It’s young Belgian star Thomas Pieters, who I wrote about earlier this week. He’s not a surprise. Still, it might be too little, too late for Pieters — both Garcia and Rose are safely aboard the 12th green and should head for the birdieable 13th and 15th soon.

Well.

Our beloved (or maybe not beloved) Spanish son is officially on the skids, friends. A Sergio bogey on 10 has given Justin Rose the outright lead, and El Nino’s followed that up with another tee ball into the pine needles at 11. We’re gonna do this again, it seems.

If Sergio’s backing up, the door seems wide open for Rose at the moment. There’s a trio of players in 3rd at 5-under: former winner Charl Schwartzel, Thomas Pieters, and Matt Kuchar who just joined the do with this majestic ace on 16.

Sergio Garcia is tied for the lead in a major championship on the back nine. Sergio Garcia’s ball is, well, in some shrubbery and pine needles. Help me.

Remember that mildly-large lead for Sergio? It’s gone now — in just a couple of holes.

A quick birdie-birdie-birdie stretch for Justin Rose has the two European Ryder Cup teammates tied at the top heading to the 9th. That’s not to say Sergio’s exactly struggling just yet. He let a short birdie putt slip over the lip on the 8th, but he nailed a clutch snaking downhill par save on the 7th just before.

This is gonna be fun backside on Sunday at The Masters.

FOLKS! Sergio’s living right while the world’s burning around him. His lead is now three over Justin Rose after the Englishman ran a put waaaaay past on the 5th and couldn’t make the par putt coming back. No one else is making much of a move, either: Rose is the only player within four shots of Garcia at the top. This is fun! Jordan Spieth, struggling with his putter uncharacteristically, is five back at 3-under-par.

A guy with major, major collapse cobwebs with a possible big lead. This is setting up to be a classic, can’t miss, fascinating back nine.

Say these words: Sergio Garcia has a two-shot lead on Sunday in a major championship. He dropped in a swinging eight-footer on the par-4 3rd hole -- and he’s now two shots clear of Justin Rose who’s in solo second at 6-under par.

With Charley Hoffman in possible jail a couple holes ahead, we’re looking like some separation’s coming between Garcia, Rose, and Fowler and the rest of the pack. Still plenty of time for that to change, of course. But things aren’t exactly super bunched up at the moment.

REGULAR SERGIO BACK?! The door was wide open for El Nino to move well-ahead with an eagle on the 2nd after a big drive, but a poor 2nd and booted short putt left him only with a par. Justin Rose booting one that was even shorter leaves him ahead by one, though. Jordan Spieth’s struggling a bit out of the gate, just making another bogey on the 3rd to fall back to 3-under-par.

WE’RE GONNA DO THIS? WE’RE GONNA DO THIS. Sergio Garcia is your solo Masters leader. Serg stuffed it in tight and capitalized after JUICING one to 130-ish out on the first. He’s one ahead of Rose heading to the par-5 2nd.

Also, Adam Scott just drove it over the 3rd green. And then made par. Sure.

Something of note: Don’t be deceived by early birdies on 2. That par-5 should be for the taking for tour-level players today, and par will probably lose you at least a half-shot or so on the field. It might not be predictive of a whole lot to come. Example: Rory’s already given his birdie there back, falling back to level par. He’s in the danger zone of falling out of this already.

That said, be patient here today, mid-front nine is where we’ll probably see our Sunday start to coalesce.

We’re officially into the TV window for what could be — maybe should be — the most compelling day of professional golf in a decade or more. You’ve got about every storyline we could ask for. Can Sergio finally get it done? Or, how about Jordan Spieth’s redemption? Rickie Fowler could get the major championship Sunday struggles off his back. Justin Rose could become a two-time major champion — an honor he’s well-earned. There’s plenty of other big names — Adam Scott, Lee Westwood, Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm — all within striking distance too if they’re able to record a low round.

There’s little that’s happened on the golf course just yet that will affect the race for the green jacket, but it’s worth keeping an eye on Rory — he birdied the 2nd to get to 1-under for the championship. He’ll need a few more on the front to give himself a chance to post something when he turns to the back. Also, Freddie! A couple birdies has him back to red figures.

The Masters has an official one, and we’ll pull from it to populate this spreadsheet throughout the day.
