Matt Kuchar made the first hole-in-one of the Masters on Sunday evening, shortly after 5 p.m. ET. Kuchar’s ace came on the par-3 16th hole Augusta National Golf Club.

Kuchar spun his tee shot on the par-3 16th directly into the cup.
CBS’ Verne Lundquist said it was the 18th ace in Masters history. The 16th hole is playing at 170 yards this week. It’s been among the easier holes on the course, with 40 birdies made there in competition so far. But nobody had aced it — or any other hole on the course — until Kuchar knocked his tee shot in on Sunday.
Kuchar played a 7-iron, landing the ball just in front of and to the right of the flagstick. It ran a bit past the hole, then spun toward home. The ace brought Kuchar to 5-under for the tournament and put him in third place. He’ll wind up making thousands of dollars because of this shot, even though he isn’t likely to win the green jacket. Kuchar was at even par at the turn on Sunday and has made an incredible charge.
It was Kuchar’s first ace in a major but not overall, according to Golf Channel’s Justin Ray. Not such a bad time or place for it.
