We got golf’s version of overtime in what will go down as one of the greatest Masters final-round duels in recent memory. It ended with this putt by Sergio Garcia to secure the green jacket.
Sergio Garcia wins the 2017 Masters in a playoff after epic final-round duel
18 holes weren’t enough.

Garcia beat Justin Rose on the 73rd hole of the Masters after trading haymakers all the way down the stretch on the second nine. The Masters playoff format has come a long way. If the tournament was tied after 72 holes in yesteryear, we’d be back on Monday to finish this thing.
Back in the day, there were 36-hole playoffs, then 18-hole playoffs before the current format was put in place at Augusta National. No sudden death playoff has lasted more than two holes, and the most recent one was Bubba Watson’s 2012 triumph over Louis Oosthuizen.
After an errant tee shot found the woods for Rose (with an advantageous kick) he didn’t get ahold of his second shot correctly coming out of the woods and it dribbled into the fairway. His approach was pretty good, and his putt close to putting pressure on Garcia, but Sergio sunk his birdie putt to erase any doubt and put himself in the history books.
