Lexi Thompson skydives into LPGA Tour pro-am

“A dream come true” is how Lexi Thompson describes parachuting into the Kingsmill Championship pro-am attached to a Navy SEAL.

Tiger Woods, as Lexi Thompson proved on Wednesday, is not the only professional golfer with Navy SEALs envy.

Thompson parachuted, with a Navy SEAL at her back, from 10,000 feet onto the first tee of the LPGA Tour’s Kingsmill Championship pro-am. The unusual entrance into the event was certainly an attention-getter for her Lexi Legacy Challenge charity, which raises funds and awareness for families of wounded and fallen United States Navy SEALs.

“A dream come true is all I can say. Not only did I get to skydive, but I got to jump with Navy SEALs, who are the most elite members of our military,” said the world No. 5. “We all get to compete each week on the LPGA Tour because of the sacrifices of the SEALs and their families, so giving back is the least I can do.”

The skydive marked the first parachute jump by Thompson, who landed on the first tee of the pro-am ahead of Thursday’s start to the tournament at Kingsmill Resort’s River Course in Williamsburg, Va. Three other Navy SEALs and a skydiver from Thompson’s sponsor, Red Bull, who videotaped the plunge, accompanied the seven-time tour winner.

Thompson, who traditionally sports pink on Saturdays of tournaments, will add camouflage blue on Sundays as an outward show of support for the SEAL Legacy Foundation.

Woods, you may recall, in his younger days trained with the SEALs, rigorous workouts that some Tiger watchers believe contributed to his many injuries throughout his pro career.

Here are some photos of Thompson’s excellent adventure (via Red Bull):
