Tiger Woods blames DUI on prescription drugs, denies alcohol was a factor

Woods was driving in Jupiter, Fla., near his home in Jupiter Island.

Tiger Woods was arrested and charged with driving under the influence early Monday morning in Jupiter, near Jupiter Island where Woods lives. Woods said in a statement Monday evening that the cause was a “unexpected reaction” to prescribed drugs, but took full responsibility for his mistake.

Jail records show that Woods was arrested by Jupiter Police Department around 3 a.m. ET and released from custody at 10:50 a.m. ET.

This is his arrest report.

Woods released this statement Monday night.

I understand the severity of what I did and I take full responsibility for my actions.

I want the public to know that alcohol was not involved. What happened was an unexpected reaction to prescribed medications. I didn’t realize the mix of medications had affected me so strongly.

I would like to apologize with all my heart to my family, friends and the fans. I expect more from myself too.

I will do everything in my power to ensure this never happens again.

I fully cooperated with law enforcement, and I would like to personally thank the representatives of the Jupiter Police Department and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s office for their professionalism.

The 41-year-old Woods, who said he is “pain free,” is still recovering from the spinal fusion surgery he underwent, his fourth back surgery. He hasn’t played competitively since February, when he performed terribly in the first round of the Dubai Desert Classic. He said his poor performance was caused by back spasms.
