Wesley Bryan makes ridiculous birdie after hitting Phil Mickelson-like driver from way off the fairway at Wells Fargo

Who does Wesley Bryan think he is? Phil (Was Here) Mickelson?

Wesley Bryan, a trick-shot artist turned PGA Tour winner, found himself on Friday in territory at Eagle Point Golf Club that only Phil Mickelson would be likely to survey. Then, like the legend who inspired the #PhilWasHere hashtag and is also playing this week at the Wells Fargo Championship, Bryan turned disaster into triumph with what the announcer proclaimed “should be an illegal 4.”

Unfortunately, the birdie at the par-5 sixth hole (his 15th of the second round) was not enough to get Bryan to the weekend, as he finished the day at 5-over 77 and his week at 6-over with the projected cut line at +1. But at least the reigning RBC Heritage champ hasn’t lost his knack for shot trickery.

The leading contender for 2016-2017 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year honors, Bryan will make his Players Championship debut next week. Who’s not looking forward to seeing the 27-year-old half of the Bryan Bros. golf duo tackle the famed island green at TPC Sawgrass?
