Rickie Fowler’s historic start to the 117th U.S. Open has the young pro on track to earn his first major title. Can the 28-year-old continue to slay Erin Hills en route to a record-setting win?

Fowler’s -7 start to the competition put him in rarefied air. Only two other golfers have started an Open with such a dominance. That was back in 1980 when living legend Jack Nicklaus and Tom Weiskopf got off to a shared lead at Baltusrol.

The Californian’s hot start has him atop a leaderboard filled with familiar names — and a handful of crafty veterans looking for a late-career resurgence. Lee Westwood, 44, earned his spot on the front page of the standings with a -3 score to start his tournament, and 47-year-old Ernie Els is just a stroke behind.

Other leaderboard mainstays like Patrick Reed, Brooks Koepka, J.B. Holmes, and Brandt Snedeker are all within striking distance. They’ll have to fend off a challenge from a stacked field loaded with top-10 standouts and former Open champions.

USOpen.com’s featured groups offer 12 of the planet’s best golfers. The 2016 champion, Dustin Johnson, will hit the links as part of a group that features the past three Open champs. He’ll be flanked by former world No. 1 Jordan Spieth (currently ranked No. 5) and Martin Kaymer. A trio of Masters winners, including reigning champ Sergio Garcia, will be grouped in their continued quest to master Erin Hills’ undulating fairways and glassy greens.

That will be easier said than done. The ever-rising fescue just feet from the fairways will punish inaccuracy on one of the longest courses in event history. The since-trimmed grass already has pros like Kevin Na and Wesley Bryan #madonline but wasn’t nearly as damaging as expected after an opening round with several below-par scores.

Here’s how you can watch second-round coverage on television and online.
