Louis Oosthuizen celebrates career runner-up grand slam with epic lip-sync performance

After coming up just short of winning the PGA Championship on Sunday, Louis Oosthuizen entertains Twitter with a lip-sync performance to mark his completion of the career grand slam of second-place finishes.

Phil Mickelson may own the record for second-place finishes at U.S. Opens (six), but Louis Oosthuizen, after coming in two strokes behind Justin Thomas Sunday at the PGA Championship, now lays claim to runner-up results in all four majors. He celebrated his achievement with a lip-syncing performance that would make Jimmy Fallon jealous.

The 2010 British Open champ had the Wanamaker Trophy in sight when he eagled the par-5 15th in Sunday’s final round of the PGA at Quail Hollow, only to make a bogey on his last hole and fall out of contention. So while Jordan Spieth failed to complete his career grand slam by winning the PGA, King Louis joined the illustrious company of Jack Nicklaus and Greg Norman in compiling the runner-up slam.

After finishing the PGA finale with a 1-under 70, tied with Francesco Molinari and Patrick Reed, Oosthuizen took to the air — both on his plane and via Twitter — to mark the moment with a hysterical rendition of “Rise Up” by Andra Day.

For the record, Oosthuizen has a long way to go to overtake Nicklaus’ 19 second-place outcomes. In addition to his all-time record of 18 major titles, he owned solo or joint second in seven British Opens, four Masters, four U.S. Opens, and four PGA Championships, according to The New York Times.

As far as anyone knows, however, the Golden Bear never (publicly, at least) serenaded the winners of any of those events in which he earned the silver medal.

Here’s a roster of Oosthuizen’s major runner-up finishes:

  • 2012 Masters (playoff loss to Bubba Watson)
  • 2015 U.S. Open (lost to Spieth)
  • 2015 Open Championship (Zach Johnson)
  • 2017 PGA Championship (Justin Thomas)
