Tiger Woods announced Monday morning he will play in the 2018 National at TPC Potomac outside Washington, D.C.

“I am really looking forward to being back in the D.C. area this summer playing in The National,” Woods said in a statement. “As a two-time champion of this event benefiting my foundation, The National has always been a special event for me.”

Woods, who is also the host of the PGA Tour event, is the oddsmakers’ favorite to win the Masters, which starts next week and will be his sixth tournament in 2018 since he returned to competitive golf following his fourth back surgery almost a year ago. He last competed in The National in 2015 and won the contest in 2009 and 2012.

Woods finished T5 in his last start before the Masters, the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and shared second place at the Valspar Championship a week earlier.

TPC Potomac will stage The National for the second time, with Kyle Stanley, who defeated Charles Howell III in a one-hole playoff last year, the defending champion. This year’s event will run from June 25-July 1.
