Tiger Woods shot a 1-under 70 in Thursday’s opening round of the Valspar Championship in Palm Harbor, Fla., but an approach shot at the 17th hole had folks thinking of the “vintage” 14-time major champion.
Tiger Woods twirls his club after ‘vintage’ approach shot

Woods’ tee shot at the 215-yard 17th hole on Thursday nearly hit the pin, and what made the shot more memorable was the little twirl of the club by Woods immediately after the shot. He knew he had a good one, something that has been few and far between in recent years.
“Wow! Now that was vintage Tiger Woods,” was the call on Golf Channel.
He sank the short putt for birdie.
This is the third tournament this season for Woods, who missed the cut in February at Riviera. Woods made just one official PGA Tour start in 2016-2017 combined, sidelined .
“I’ve only played 10 rounds,” Woods told the Associated Press on Wednesday. “I know people are saying that I’ve been erratic, little inconsistent. But 10 rounds, it’s not that many. ... That’s basically how my comeback has been so far this year. I haven’t played a lot.”
Woods’ last PGA Tour win was at the Bridgestone Invitational in Akron, Ohio in August 2013.
