Tiger Woods will join Masters champion Patrick Reed, world No. 1 Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, and a slew of the world’s best golfers in what is often the toughest tournament in golf, the U.S. Open.
Tiger Woods commits to playing U.S. Open at Shinnecock
Woods will go for his fourth U.S. Open title in June.

The USGA confirmed on Thursday that Woods, who finished T32 at Augusta last week in his first major championship since 2015, officially committed to try to win his fourth U.S. Open title in June at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club.
Woods’ last major victory came 10 years ago at the 2008 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines when he outlasted Rocco Mediate in an epic playoff while competing on a broken leg and a shredded knee. He also won his national championship in 2000 and 2002 and would join Willy Anderson, Ben Hogan, Bobby Jones, and Jack Nicklaus as the only golfers with four U.S. Open wins.
The start at Shinnecock will mark Woods’ first in the men’s second major of the season since 2015, when he shot 80 and 76 in the first two rounds at Chambers Bay and missed the cut.
The former No. 1 player, who moved up to 88th in the official world golf rankings after the Masters, has competed in the event at the Southampton, New York, venue twice before — as an amateur in 1995, though a sprained left wrist forced him to withdraw, in what may be among the first WDs of the injury-plagued superstar career, after rounds of 74 and 85, and in 2004, when he finished T17 at 10-over.
The tournament runs from June 14-17, after which the 10-year exemption Woods earned with that ’08 victory will expire.
