The second round of the U.S. Open goes down between 6:45 a.m. ET and around 8 p.m. Friday at Shinnecock Hills in the Hamptons. The day began with four co-leaders at one stroke under par: Dustin Johnson, Ian Poulter, Scott Piercy, and Russell Henley.

Shinnecock is a challenging test for even the world’s best players. It has severe greens and lots of fescue mess to punish players who miss the fairway even by a smidgen. Whoever gets to the top of the leaderboard and stays there might not do it with a bunch of birdies as much as by avoiding the kinds of ugly mistakes that a track like this one can make hurt. To that point, the course was brutal, as evidence by four of 156 players finishing under par.

Friday’s television broadcast starts at 10 a.m. ET on FS1 and moves to main FOX at 4:30 p.m. Joe Buck leads the network’s coverage, with help from major champions Curtis Strange and Paul Azinger and a cast of others. You can stream some of the action on usopen.com before the telecast goes live in the mid-morning. That’ll be useful if you want to watch Tiger Woods, who tees off just after 8 a.m. with Johnson and Justin Thomas. Woods had a putrid Thursday and finished 8 over, but it’s still something of a thrill to see him in this event.

Friday tee times at the U.S. Open

All times are Eastern. The USGA uses a split-tees system for the first two days of the weekend, where half the field tees off from the first hole and the other half from the 10th.
